Through PG&E's Residential EV Charging Program

Serving Bakersfield & All of Kern County

What Is PG&E's Residential EV Charging Program?

PG&E offers rebates to residential customers to offset the cost of purchasing and installing an approved Level 2 EV charger at home. The program is funded by California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard — not customer dollars.

Jennings Electric is a licensed California electrical contractor. We guide you through every step — from the rebate application to a completed, permitted installation.

How It Works — Step by Step

Step 1 — Apply to PG&E

Submit your application at PG&E’s Residential EV Charging portal. You’ll need your PG&E account number, Service Agreement ID, and EV registration. Allow about 10 business days for processing.

Step 2 — Get Pre-Approved & Choose Jennings Electric

Once pre-approved, you’ll receive an email with your application number. Rebate Plus customers select a contractor from PG&E’s Trade Ally Network. Call us at 661-578-8806 to confirm availability and schedule your assessment.

Step 3 — We Assess & Install

A Jennings Electric technician assesses your electrical panel, files the required permit, and installs your PG&E-approved Level 2 EV charger. For Rebate Plus customers, the rebate is applied directly — reducing your out-of-pocket cost up to the full rebate amount.

Step 4 — Start Charging at Home

Your charger is installed, inspected, and ready to go. Standard option customers receive their rebate check within 5 business days of application approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the installation really free?

For Rebate Plus customers who qualify based on income or public assistance enrollment, PG&E’s rebate covers up to $2,000 for installation and up to $5,000 if a panel upgrade is needed. This rebate is paid directly to the installer — meaning your upfront cost can be zero up to the rebate amount.

What type of charger will be installed?

Only PG&E-approved Level 2 chargers qualify. Eligible brands include ChargePoint, Tesla Wall Connector, Wallbox, Emporia, GM Chargers, Ford, and more. Your technician will help you choose the best fit for your vehicle and home.

Do I need a panel upgrade?

Not always. PG&E-approved chargers have adjustable amperage that works with most existing panels. Our technician assesses your panel during the visit. If an upgrade is needed, Rebate Plus customers can get up to $5,000 to help cover it.

Can I have more than one charger installed?

The PG&E rebate is limited to one per household. However, Jennings Electric can install additional chargers outside the rebate program — call us for a quote.

What do I need to apply?

Your PG&E residential electric bill (for your account number & Service Agreement ID), your current California DMV registration for your BEV/PHEV, and — if applying for Rebate Plus — income verification documents.
